communicate with my mind

So the beastie continues to grow and become smarter and more precocious each day. His communication and comprehension skills continue to evolve as well. He signs "all done", "more", "kitty", "doggie", "hi" and "bye". He would probably know more but I have failed to heep him in the loop with this. He does seem to try and make his own up when frustrated. I can tell that he understands so much, but cannot say the right words back.

His favorite sporting events are four-wheeling over reclining parents, followed by a colossal rear-up and smash move, and playing dodge-duck-and-pillow on the couch. In between these sessions, he loves to choose books for us to read to him. We'll usually get a few pages through before he grabs the book and replaces it with another. I like to think he's just taking the information in so fast that we just have to keep feeding him new ones. The sessions go kind of like this:

"Do you like this, Finn? The little hippo..."

"Dude, I'm so done with that. I totally know what's going to happen."

"Okay, then. The big locomotive steamed down the tracks..."

"Yeah, uh huh, and was the spark that ignited the industrial revolution of the nineteenth century. Now tell me something I don't know, Dad. Oooooo, like that? Whats that?"

"A purple circle."

"Oooooooooooooooooo!!!!"

And so on. When he's taken in his terabyte of daily information (Johnny mnemonic's a hack, BTW, compared to this kid) his piping hot brain needs some calories. Lacking the physical strength to actually open the fridge, he pretends to "play" with a wooden hammer and ball set (which, by the way, is a very scary thing for a small boy to own under any circumstances) while waiting for us to open it up and pull something out.

Within moments, he tosses the hammer aside and power-crawls to the icebox before we can get it closed, stands up like a baby bear, and fishes around the bottom shelves for goodies. The other day he managed to pull out an entire dish of cut fruit. He dumped the entire thing on the floor to discover it was ninety percent unripe cantaloupe. Reaching into the impromptu fruit salad, he plucked out the single, ripe blackberry, screamed a cry of victory while hoisting it into the air, and devoured it.

These are the victories of the one-year-old. Brain fed, he promptly crawled off to taunt the cats.

One Year Old :) and :(

Wow! So happy to have arrived at this point with my little man. He is such a strong, vivacious, and charismatic little guy. I have a feeling that once he is walking - we will be in big trouble once again (haven't I said that before?) Here is a quick list of things that are happening:
Nicknames:

Monster
Pu-po
Muffin
Cuddle Muffin
Muffeleta
Finny
Finnster
Sharkie (not so much anymore)
Little Man
The Beast
Professor Barzso

Words and sounds Finn is making:
Okay okay okay
Yea
Guh
Hi
thppppppt
Oh (said in a short sound kinda like Navajo)
oooooooo
Yummmmmm (when he likes something)
Mamma
Dadda
Kei (for Kitty)
Ya ya ya ya ya
sings this tune... uh-ah uh-ah uh-ah
Kind of a "Grammy" sound
A plethora of other random sounds that aren't as constant.

He recently had his first Bday. We celebrated some friends and family with a Jello cake for Finn. Tain and I failed at making what we thought would be a Jello-Castle cake.... Instead it was a little pile of broken red goo. Finn had fun nevertheless. I had hoped to make him a cape - something I would like to make every year - but ran out of time.

Time - there is not enough of it :( I hope I am doing everything that I should be doing. I struggle to balance my working life and taking care of him all day. I hope he is getting everything that he needs. Somedays I am fried from teaching late or staying up late to lesson plan and I catch myself zoning out while playing with him. He IS finally interested in reading books. Previously, would read to him while he crawled around playing with things. But now he can handle sitting in our lap at night.... we might finally have that Lap-cat we had always hoped for :) (joking)......
